About Hvar

Hvar Island is one of favorite destinations for visitors to Croatia. The island of Hvar is known as the sunniest part of Croatia, making it a popular holiday destination not only during the summer season but also in spring and autumn. Hvar's natural beauty have been recognized by many, making it a frequent member of top-ten listings as one the most attractive islands to visit worldwide. The island is known under the name of Pharos in Greek and Lesinain Italian. Getting to Hvar is easy: either from Split on the Croatian coast or, in summer, from Ancona on Italian coast. Zavala is situated about 80 m above the sea, two hours by motor-boat from Hvar. It is a picturesque village, on a slope by the sea with several beautiful pebble beaches. The village has a harbour with a jetty and a road link with Jelsa through road tunnel (1,400 m). Zavala is famous for its excellent white wine (bogdanjuša). Below the village, a string of beautiful beaches lapped by a crystal clear sea. The most attractive is at Petraščica (with a cave). Zavala's attractions include the summer residence of the family Duboković-Nadalini (about 1830) with the chapel of St. George (1866), the former residence of the first owner of Zavala, Count Tadije Kačić (about 1630), and the old chapel of St. Peter (1727) at the eastern end of the village
